چکیده

A 9-year-old girl presented with a firm occipital swelling. She had multiple café-au-lait lesions without other clinical features or family history of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). MRI showed subcutaneous soft tissue mass in the left occipitotemporal region with “target sign” suggestive of plexiform neurofibroma (figure 1). There were supra and infratentorial T2-weighted hyperintense lesions, so-called unidentified bright objects characteristic of NF1 (figure 2). MRI target sign helped to confirm plexiform neurofibroma which is one of the clinical criteria for the diagnosis of NF1.1 Target sign in plexiform neurofibroma is due to central fibrocollagenous core (T2-hypointense) surrounded by myxomatous tissue (T2-hyperintense).2

Primary prostate solitary neurofibroma without neurofibromatosis-I: a case report and narrative review of the literature

Neurofibroma of the prostate is an extremely rare benign tumor, particularly when it is not associated with neurofibromatosis-I (NF-1). This study aimed to report the case of a 44-year-old man who presented with dysuria for about 4 years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a mass in the prostate with “target sign” on T2-weighted imaging. The mass was surgically excised, and histopathologic...

Neurofibromatosis Type 1 Presenting with Plexiform Neurofibromas in Two Patients: MRI Features

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), also known as peripheral neurofibromatosis or von Recklinghausen's disease, is one of the most common genetic disorders. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern. Multiple cutaneous neurofibromas are hallmark lesions of NF1. Localized and plexiform neurofibromas of the paraspinal and sacral region are the most common abdominal neoplasms in NF1. Herein, we...

Teaching NeuroImages: The lentiform fork sign: An MRI pattern of metformin-associated encephalopathy.

A 63-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus on hemodialysis presented with subacute onset of slurred speech and difficulty walking after 1 week of inadvertent metformin use. On examination, she had a wide-based gait, symmetric upper limb rigidity, bradykinesia, and slurred speech. Brain MRI revealed a pattern of vasogenic edema with T2/fluid-attenuated inversion recovery hyperintensity in...

Teaching neuroimages: optic nerve glioma with perineural arachnoid gliomatosis in a patient with neurofibromatosis-1.

A 4-year-old boy presented with a 1-week history of left eye proptosis. Examination showed multiple café-au-lait spots and impaired left eye vision. MRI revealed left optic nerve glioma with perineural arachnoid gliomatosis (PAG) (figure, A–C). The growth patterns of optic nerve gliomas are classified into intraneural and perineural forms. The intraneural form is characterized by fusiform enlar...

Teaching neuroimages: infant with glutaric aciduria type 1 presenting with infantile spasms and hypsarrhythmia.

A 7-month-old boy with glutaric aciduria type 1 (GA1) presented with 1 week of clustered flexor spasms. Examination revealed mild axial hypotonia without encephalopathy. Video-EEG monitoring revealed hypsarrhythmia and infantile spasms (figure, A). MRI showed acute basal ganglia injury (figure, B). After 3 weeks of prednisolone treatment, 5-month follow-up showed continued resolution of hypsarr...
